Raglan Range ● Marlborough ● 1 – 4 April 2021
Although it didn't quite live up to its name (probably for the best), the Lees-Hellfire circuit certainly delivered. Scrambling up rivers. Wide open valleys. Majestic tops. And very very decent scree. Maybe the South Island is just where my heart is.
Heading up Hellfire Stream. Despite no official track there was a fairly-easy-to-follow route most of the way. This is an exception.
Looking up towards the top of the Hellfire valley
Looking back down the valley
View from the tops
And onother one
A nice big scree on the Branch River
Setting up camp, about 3km upstream from the Branch bivvy
Looking down on the camp (scoping out a route for the next morning)
Mid way through discovering that sandals aren't ideal for scee running
Dropping down into Lees Creek
Looking back from where we came
Finishing where we started
