Peel & Lockett Ranges ● Kahurangi NP ● 14 – 18 April 2022
When plans to do the Dragon's Teeth crossing over Easter were foiled by a delayed ferry we went in search of an alternative trip in the Kahurangi area. We settled on a traversal up the Peel range, dropping past Fenella Hut, and heading back down the Lockett range. Essentially, doing everything we could to avoid the Cobb valley while spending as much time near it as possible.
Overlooking a sea of mist from near the Mt Peel summit
The beginning of a whole lot of ridge travel
Looking out at Kimbell Spur
Camping above Camp Lake
Looking out over the shelf we camped on
More ridges, but this time with cloud
Summit of Mt Cobb
Looking down the Cobb Valley from Xenicus Peak
Dropping down beside Xenicus Peak
I cannot emphasise how nice this tarn was (just up from Fenella Hut)
Cairns!
More ridges...
... and some scree for good measure
