The Cobb valley is Lava
Peel & Lockett Ranges ● Kahurangi NP ● 14 – 18 April 2022
When plans to do the Dragon's Teeth crossing over Easter were foiled by a delayed ferry we went in search of an alternative trip in the Kahurangi area. We settled on a traversal up the Peel range, dropping past Fenella Hut, and heading back down the Lockett range. Essentially, doing everything we could to avoid the Cobb valley while spending as much time near it as possible.

- Friday (10 hrs 25 mins)
- 1 hr from Myttons Hut to the ridge
- 4 hrs to lunch spot at saddle between pt 1617 and pt 1639
- 1 hr 35 mins to tarn between pt 1525 and Mt Ranolf
- 1 hr 50 mins to Mt Prospect
- 25 mins to tarns above Camp Lake
- Saturday (9 hrs 20 mins)
- 3 hrs 55 mins to tarn between pt 1652 and pt 1574
- 3 hrs 50 mins to Fenella Hut (with side trip to Xenicus Peak)
- 50 mins to tarn on the ridge
- Sunday (7 hrs 55 mins)
- 4 hrs 50 mins to pt 1631
- 45 mins to Iron Lake
- 40 mins to Sylvester Hut
- Monday
- 1 hr to car park
