Tararua FP ● 27 – 28 May 2023
A weekend jaunt in the Tararuas which highlighted to me that 3 weeks of a sedentary covid-recovery lifestyle had taken its toll. After lagging behind the group up to Powell Hut, getting blown over by the wind on Holdsworth, and dropping 1000m back down to the Waiohine, you'd have thought I'd have had enough. However, partly wanting to bag a hut, and partly wanting to prove that I still had solme endurance despite a clearly lacking VO2 max, I made a solo trip up to Aokaparangi and back. This involved breaking a bootlace, finding the sole of my boot was coming off, somehow losing a gaiter, discovering I hadn't packed spare torch batteries, and breaking my walking pole. At least it was a bluebird day to head out via Jumbo on Sunday.

There by goblins in them hills
Clear skies on Sunday
