Tararua FP ● 10 – 11 June 2023
Trusting the forecast, I was expecting to be walking in rain all weekend, so when it looked like we would actually just be walking in clag I was actually pretty happy. Plus, we had got about 50m of views between the bushline and the cloud as we climbed up Mitre. But half an hour later we began to imagine faint shimmers of blue above, and within no time we were looking down on a sea of cloud, with not a breath of wind to ruin it. As we headed over Mitre and Girdlestone we were treated to an absolutely stunning sunset, and views of Taranaki and Ruapehu. By the time we reached Tarn ridge hut the Milky Way was on full show, and I even saw a shooting star. Somehow this had become one of my best Tararua trips. On Sunday we headed out over Adkin and past Mid King Biv.
